Roaming. Stockholm.

Summer days in Stockholm. It's rather lovely.

First 13. Cute Cottage Number 2.

Another cute cottage numbered thirteen, this time in Mariehamn.

26 July 2012

Roaming. Mariehamn.

It's summer, it's cool and it's old school. Mariehamn is also rocking this week with Rock-Off featuring Swedish bands. More soon.

Pinboard. Natural Characters.

Peter McLean and I were recently in Fiskars Village on a residency. We not only worked on our own respective practices, but also worked on a number of collaborative projects including Four Feet and a new series of drypoint prints called Natural Characters. The new series reflects our exploration of Fiskars and its environs on foot and bike. Starting today, and for the next thirty days, a new image from the series will be published on Four Feet. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

Popcorn. Mark Twain.

Mark Twain said it best: 'Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbors. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.'

Roaming. Can Collecting.

What could be more Finnish than a rock concert in Helsinki on the outskirts of the Winter Garden? With ZZ Top set to take the stage, an army of can collectors gathered spent drink bottles as the crowd continued to imbibe beer and long drinks. Police on horseback arrived soon after to conduct a piss patrol along nearby fences.

Roaming. Tic Tac Toe.

Playtime on the work site.

Roaming. Art Is So Gay.

I've been surprised by just how much graffiti there is in Tallinn, old town included. These little statements pop up about the place registering a smile on my face.

19 July 2012

First 13. Old Meets New.

Tallinn's old town gives way to the new at this point.

18 July 2012

Roaming. Pig Planter.

Pig planters with geraniums is a winning combination for me. Here they denote a country Estonian restaurant worth trying.

Pie Report. Mediaeval Meat.

A pie shop smack in the middle of a tourist strip can only mean disappointment. Yet in Tallinn it was all smiles with mediaeval theme thrown in. Four and a half euros bought a pie, a pear cider, a bowl of delicious soup and some elk jerky — the gherkin was free — with a euro thrown in for new shoes for the maiden pie seller.

Roaming. Double Birch.

In Rovanimie, touted capital of Lapland in Finland, matching outfits on couples are all the rage. I wasn't quite quick enough, but this shot shows the double birch trend hitting the streets.

Roaming. Hero.

Graffiti is big in Norway. And it's often rather lovely.

14 July 2012

Roaming. Harbourside.

I love a working harbour, particularly one bathed in Northern Light. This is in Tromsø.

13 July 2012

Glossy. Black Cat.

As a fan of both The New Yorker and cats, this cover from October 2006 is a winner in my books.

First 13. Tromsø Cottage.

It's Black Friday. This First Thirteen comes from the rather bustling little city of Tromsø in Norway. I've got cabin love for this cute one.

11 July 2012

Roaming. Tromsø.

I need more legs to get to everything I want to see here in Tromsø.

03 July 2012

First 13. Turku.

Just after midnight in Turku.

Roaming. Cinnamon Buns.

The place to get the best fresh-from-the-oven cinnamon buns in Fiskars is Café Antique. They're nothing short of amazing.
