Pinboard. Zig Zag Courant.
One of the highlights of June 2017 was taking part in ZigZagCity's collaborative workshop with the Flaneur Magazine team – one of my favourite magazines – to produce ZigZagCourant. Over a weekend a team of inspiring international creatives from across Europe came together to make, print and distribute a newspaper in Rotterdam's south.

Pinboard. Parting Shots.
Anna Brown's book Parting Shots: The Last Nights of the Arthouse in Mugshots is out now. The portraits in this book are not of the idolised rock stars that dedicated followers throng to see, but the audience themselves. It's a warm study of hardcore rock fans, and it was a pleasure to write the foreword.

Pinboard. Out Now - Lurker.
Lurker's first outing was in an exhibition as part of the Vivid Photography Festival in Canberra in 2008. Since then I've continued to shoot potential covers wherever I have found myself. From today Lurker's archive has its own home, where you'll find a new cover, perhaps even two, each day. The archive is chronological starting in 2003. I'm up to Estonia, 2012 with some 250 covers to date.

Pinboard. Blink Drawings.
Three years ago I began making very quick sketches of the people I saw as I went about my daily travels. The project has blossomed into Blink, on ongoing series of drawings coupled with fictional tales of the characters who caught my attention momentarily. With well over six hundred drawings, it's high time to give Blink it's own home on Tumblr. Why not take a look?

Pinboard. Guest Who 2.
A good part of my time in the Satelliet Groep studio in Den Haag recently was spent researching a new project called Parliament, the title taken from the collective noun for a group of owls. Whilst there is a slightly humorous slant involved, the work aims to question the role of surveillance, privacy, ego and photography in an installation utilising audience performance and webcasts. To kick things off I took part in Guest Who #2 a month or so ago giving a very quick ten minute intro into the ideas, references and likely outcome of the project. The image above is the poster for We Live In Public, an intriguing documentary that has provided a source of inspiration for Parliament. Recommended viewing. Thanks to everyone who responded to the questions I gave out, I was quite interested to note a general indifference to the idea of privacy. If you have a few moments to spare, I'd be interesting to hear your thoughts:
How do you feel about surveillance? Privacy?
What books or films can you recommend on the theme?
Do you think our democratically elected governments work? How could they be improved?
Any other thoughts or comments?

Pinboard. Westduinen.
I'll take any chance to go walking, particularly somewhere I've never been before. Wednesday's weather was perfect to visit Westduinen in Den Haag with DCR's Jacqueline (thanks for the intriguing anecdotes), Heath Bunting and Juanita. The plan was to experience nature, but with the Netherlands being significantly reclaimed from the sea, just how much was natural? It seems the dunes are not, complete with old bunkers from wars past. Out to sea you could see oil rigs, and at either end of the beach industrialisation in the form of leisure at one end and steaming smoke stacks at the other. Thanks to Heath's knowledge, we sampled various edible weeds and flowers, though I have to say my baked prawns from the fish shop at the end of the walk was the taste sensation.

Pinboard. DCR Den Haag.
From today I'm in Den Haag staying at the DCR Guest Studios working 24/7 on art. Aside from the ongoing tedious task of re-keywording — don't ask — 250,000 plus photographs, I'm planning to develop a couple of new installations, produce two new blogs for existing work and spend the rest of the time taking in what this inspiring city has to offer. Stay posted for a new photo each day along with other posts detailing my adventures.

Pinboard. Interested Party.
As often happens to me, a man called out as I walked around Amsterdam Zuid. "Meneer! Meneer!" said the Moroccan man. My initial reaction was to keep walking, I knew what was to come — questions. The man had seen me photograph a port-a-loo, those mobile toilets available in a range of colours across the spectrum that have become a common sight in many parts of the world. He was curious, perplexed even. Perhaps I bring on this attention myself, I photograph odd things from plastic bags to undies and much more besides. The man was genuinely interested and we ended up chatting for some time despite my limited Dutch. He spoke of his daughter's interest in photography, and how eager she was to study it. But he wanted her to do business management so she could make a lot of money, perhaps more than he could in his coffee-shop. We bid farewell, and I left with a warm experience bought into being by an orange bio box.

Pinboard. Textures Of Place.
The Textures of Place: Laws, Geographies, Poetics symposium takes place in Sydney at UTS on December 16. This fascinating program coordinated by Dr Olivia Barr is sure to be an informative and enlightening discussion. I'm chuffed that my image Depending on the Day was used, with its direct reference to Chippendale's changing face. The drawing was created while on residency in 2009 at Queen Street Studios and traced my every step in the Chippendale boundary area.

Pinboard. B3 Back In The Ring.
It's been almost ten years since B3's first outing, so it's nice to see them on show on campus at the University of Newcastle. If you're nearby pop in and see them, if you're not you can see them on Turnstile. Martyn Jolly's B3 essay is insightful and well worth reading.
