Three new Lurker covers are currently in production. This one is the first of them taken in Shenzhen late last year. Who said double denim doesn't work?

Work is well underway on a new series of Lurker covers, this time from Hong Kong where I took part in the Wearables as Media exhibition in Kowloon Tong. Newcastle will get to see the show later in the year, but in the meantime here's a sneak peak. The woman with the red bag had well-defined creases in her jeans.

As the train from Hong Kong sped towards its destination, the sprouting city of Shenzhen came into view. I was quite unprepared for the assault about to hit my senses, something I mentioned in my Wiggin' Out post on Ikon's blog. I've finally had a chance to upload some of my photos from Shenzhen on Turnstile, so why not take a peek.

With time fast running out on a trip to Hong Kong, I stumbled on this mural before finding a buzzy café/bar that would have seen many return visits. A DJ played great music, the city and harbour were in view and the chocolate croissants were incredible.

Lurker was recently shown in Hong Kong. Five new covers were exhibited as part of the Wearables As Media exhibition along with a limited edition series of zine-like collector cards. The full set of covers will be on Turnstile in the near future.

Pinboard. Collaboration.

The Wearables As Media (WAM) exhibition recently closed at Hong Kong's Koo Ming Kown Exhibition Gallery. The project considered collaboration as a way to create cross-disciplinary art work. The WAM project was conceived by artist Tricia Flanagan as a way for students to work collaboratively in the production of photographic images representing the creative visions of WAM students. The project was extended to the Printmedia and Photomedia departments of the University of Newcastle with staff Jonathan James and myself (respectively) leading the project on Australian shores. Our students responded to the work from Hong Kong initially. They then produced their own work in collaboration with each other responding to place, in this case Newcastle. Staff also presented work with a separate show taking place in the ground floor exhibition area. The work above is a collaboration – and a Wunderwall of sorts – between Jonathan James and myself. We responded to Newcastle photographically as we're both relatively new to the city.

First 13. Central Hong Kong.

Roaming. Halloween in Hong Kong.

With bloodied limbs dangling overhead and creepy creatures hovering above dark lane ways in Hong Kong's Central district, there was little doubt that Halloween was approaching. Big Fun!

Roaming. Street Art in Hong Kong.

I stumbled upon several lane ways in Central Hong Kong that were filled with subversive street art. I'm quite liking Mao's makeover and his fetching yellow bow.

Roaming. Water Boy on Hollywood Road.

Early evening on Hollywood Road saw this man busy with his work. As he pushed the water bottles down the street on his trolley beautiful light shone through the towering buildings above.

Found. Shenzhen.

Coming down the steps of one of the most hectic shopping malls ever, I stumbled on a drawing as I attempted to jump over a group of lunching people congregated on the semi-spiral stairs.

Roaming. Shark Suits in Causeway Bay.

In the capital of hyper-consumerism – Hong Kong – shop window displays pop. This BAPE was an assault on the eyes with chameleon neon flashes while the coolest shark suits ever stood motionless.
